31 Days: A Little Reminiscing

We interrupt this 31 day adventure to do a little reminiscing!

It dawned on me last night that today or tomorrow - depending on whether or not you classify the time of our conversation late night or early morning, will be 10 years from the day  the Cpt and I officially started dating - if you can call it that. We still can't decide when our first official date was because the night we 'started dating' (talking on the phone long distance at all hours of the night/morning) I thought we were just going to hang out and eat as friends. The night went on and on and I couldn't seem to get him out of my Red Saturn! I'm glad that he stayed in until he said everything he had to say or else I might have driven back to Northern VA a single woman still exploring my options.

This was our first picture ever taken together. I still joke that I had to force him to stop to take this because he had somewhere to be. That seems to be the story of our lives, unfortunately! I think he was still miffed at me because I informed him a few days earlier that I would be moving to Northern VA a few weeks after graduation. We were just friends at that point and even though there was mutual attraction, neither of us knew what the other was thinking. Thankfully, the Lord knew a lot more than we did at that point and opened the door for a job with a DOD contractor and the opportunity to have Columbus Day weekend off to visit my friends in SC.

When I told him I was coming to town, he let me know his schedule for the weekend and managed to work me in all 3 days I was in town. It seemed odd at the time, but he knew that could  very well have been his final chance to make his move! Obviously I played right into his plans and showed up wherever he told me to be.

The night of our real planned time together we ate dinner at Souper Salad (started on a diet, stay on a diet), walked around Confederate Park in Spartanburg, where a year or so later he proposed to me,  and sat for several hours outside my friend Kimmy's house talking. Every time I see a red Saturn Coupe, I smile and think about how my life was forever changed because of a conversation in that car.

This is our most recent picture together, taken in June. We've come a long way, baby!
6 moves and 3 kids later, I'm still smitten!

I never imagined that 10 years would lead us down this road, but I sure wouldn't want to travel this road with anyone other than my patient, unconditional loving, Godly husband! Looking forward to quite a few more years of life with him. Hopefully next year we can enjoy Columbus Day weekend together again.

It was also 1 year ago this weekend that we submitted our bid on this house. Lots of good things happen on Columbus Day weekend for us.

Christopher Columbus - I heart you!
