If Simple were Simple we would all live Simply, right?
We all know it's not that Simple.
The cold hard truth is that our lives are quite complicated, well, mine is at least! There are so many different activities and events that distract us from what we really want. I know for me, there are various elements of life that hinder me from achieving the level of Simple that I want out for my life.
Here are my hindrances in no particular order:
1) The process is overwhelming. Every room, nook and cranny in my house needs attention. Some more desperately than others. Knowing where and how to begin can be paralyzing!
2) Busy, busy, busy. Few days of my life are routine. There are soccer games and practices on varying nights of the week that change from week to week.We rush from dinner to the soccer fields, often leaving plates on the
table and ingredients from dinner sitting on the counters. Let's not
talk about the crumbs and sticky stuff on the floor! There are appointments and meetings during the day that are different every week. Often these places to be are stacked one on top of the other. I walk in dump one bag and pick up another and am off again. This all leads to days of playing catch up with no time to focus on the piles steadily growing and crying for my attention.
3) Not putting things away. This goes along with #2 to some degree, but I am just guilty of not putting things back where they belong! Over time, this creates lots of drama. I can not tell you how many times in the past week I have gone on a frantic search just to find my purse because I can't seem to put it on the hook on my bedroom door!
4) 4 Kids and all their stuff. I have set a bad example for the 4 little Wades with #3! I don't put things away and guess what, neither do they! We hunt daily for shoes, DSes and their games, and whatever trinket is a prized possession at the moment. Most of their belongings have somewhere that they specifically are stored. Like their mother, they apparently have putting stuff away issues.
5) Mid Project Attention Deficit Disorder. Surely I am not alone in this one! I set out to start a project and get summoned to fix a drink or a snack. Or I walk into another room, see something else that needs my attention and start doing whatever it is. I have to verbally remind myself what I am supposed to be doing! I can not begin to tell you how many half completed projects can be found around my house.
6) Time killers. We all have them! Mine are TV, Facebook, and my boys' virtual farms, among other things. I love a good Lifetime Movie. I think I have seen them all so when I see one is on that I haven't seen I get tunnel vision. I also love CSI and Law and Order: SVU. Unfortunately for me, reruns for these two are on almost all day, every day. Something about Nick Stokes and finding out who the mysterious rapist is lures me in daily. Over the summer, the boys started playing an online farming game. I have helped them understand the game and what they need to be growing and when. However, I have also become their day time farm hand! I can't begin to imagine the time I have spent planting crops, harvesting crops and figuring out our fastest route to the next level. It really is ridiculous, but I do it out of love.
I am sure my list could go on and on and on. The decision I face is whether or not Simplifying my life, and in turn the lives of the people in my family, is worth attacking these hindrances head on! The answer is a resounding YES!
What are your hindrances? What seems to be the big distraction that keeps you from addressing the chaos that complicates your daily life? Let's conquer our hindrances together!
