31 Days: I'd Rather Have A...

After today, I can never use the phrase "I'd rather have a root canal than..." Now that I'm a root canal veteran, there are plenty of other things that I'd rather do than have another root canal. It's not so much that the actual process was painful, it just seemed to last forever and I'm not all about having people's faces that close to my face, unless you're my family! The doc did quite well numbing every part of the left side of my face, all the way to my eye lid. I certainly wasn't expecting that. I could hear all the cleaning out of the canals and feel a little grinding, which wasn't painful at all. Apparently, my tooth had an additional little canal and caused my procedure to last a few minutes longer. I do wish I had kept my phone in my hand so I could've snapped a picture of me with the cool glasses and other things they had prying my mouth open on!

I'm secretly really waiting on the pain to happen so I can pop my first ever vicodin! I had an itching reaction to codeine a few years ago, after I fell from a 60 foot cliff on the VA/KY line so I had to make sure the pharmacist knew that I was aware I could have a reaction, but I want to be put out of the misery as much as possible. I also got the kids a red box movie and am going to beg them to just chill out this evening. Dinner came from CFA so the only clean up there is to do is take these paper plates and deposit them in the trash can!

What was more painful today than the root canal was the fact that I scheduled F2 to have a shot at 8am this morning. What was I thinking? Not only did I have to drag myself out of bed, shower and get myself and her dressed before taking the boys to school, but I had to anticipate her reaction to the doctor! She refused to let the nurse weigh her on a real scale or on the baby scale. I finally had to just estimate how much she weighed. She didn't really want to sit on the table to be examined, but I managed to stand close enough to her that she could cling and still be poked on. Come to find out, she has some fluid on her ears so we have preventative antibiotics and the doctor decided we should put her on an allergy medication because she has some night time coughing and a little runny nose quite a bit. Yay me! At least I was able to get all that taken care of and the 2nd HepA shot in one stop. Silver lining, right? The nurse had the smarts to let her sit on my lap while she did the shot. Not every non-pediatric specialty nurse we've dealt with is that quick on their toes to help a small child not be in too uncomfortable of a position for a shot.

After today's experiences, though,  I can almost say I'd rather have a root canal than take F2 or any of my kids to the doctor!
