31 Days: Behind the Times

One Christmas Cpt and I asked for iPods for Christmas. Seems like forever ago. We did indeed receive our iPods that Christmas and for several years - maybe 4 or 5 - those iPods have been relatively unused. I have never made any effort to import our fairly large personal collection of CDs to iTunes so we could sync them onto our iPods. For quite a few reasons, I've been persuaded to start this tenuous process!

My suburban has a very touchy feely CD player.  I can be driving down the road, singing my lungs off to one of my favorite Kari Jobe songs and all the sudden the sound just cuts off. It's quite annoying to be cut off so abruptly! It comes back on, but who knows what part of the song it's skipped. It's not because the CD is scratched. We've put brand new CDs in and it does the exact same thing!

Knowing that we'll be driving this vehicle for a few more years and more than likely never investing any money into a new CD player, I figured now is as good a time as any to start plugging in my iPod so that I can listen to something other than the radio while I drive. Believe it or not, we have all the necessary accessories to listen to our iPods through the car speaker system. Shocking, but true!

Another of my motivations is my desire to get our CD collection either organized, trashed, or re-purposed. Several years ago, I decided to take all of our CDs out of their cases and put them in these round organizer things I bought at Target. Unfortunately, I needed about 4 of these round organizer things to get all of our CDs in one place. I didn't take into consideration how bulky and generally not user friendly this new system would be. There are a few CDs that I know we own that I haven't been able to locate so I'm hoping this process will help me discover their hiding places.

These big round organizer things are taking up valuable space and are just a wreck. CDs have fallen out of them so there are stacks of random CDs here and there. Remember yesterday's post about not putting things away. Yeah, the CDs are victim to that bad habit!

I've seen some great little projects on Pinterest of things that I could do with my old CDs.

Like this Christmas Garland that could be done with a variety of letters and words.

Or this CD Caterpillar. I've also seen monsters, fish and snails! How cute is that?

I actually need a W to replace a sign in my kitchen that I'm not going to put back up because it doesn't match my new curtains. I'm thinking I could make a W out of CDs if I can't come up with any other out of the ordinary options!

Needless to say, this is going to be an ongoing process. The benefits will be great, though. I sure can't wait to drive around rocking to vintage Twila Paris, Sandi Patty or Wayne Watson! Wow, I'm old, aren't I? Good times are just ahead.
