Did you know that the writer of this blog has a face? I know it's hard to believe, but you can imagine how few pictures I actually appear in, can't you? Even fewer now that...I won't go there again. It's too depressing.
Not only do I have a face, but I actually celebrate birthdays for myself, too, quite a few birthdays have been celebrated in my 4.75 years from 40 year life! It's a crazy concept.
This year Cpt tried to be all slick and surprise me with a gift. I will give him credit, he did just that. Because I'm not crazy about surprises, I always ask for hints - always! This year's hint was that the gift started with a G. G?
Since he and I had been talking about golfing and he bought the kids golf clubs a few weeks before my birthday, I assumed I was getting a set of clubs for myself. You know someday - - - like lots of other things in my life - - - someday I might actually learn to play golf and we could possibly play together - - - someday. That someday may be after January of 2026 when he may be retired from the Army. That's a long time to move a set of golf clubs from house to house, attic to attic, don't you think?
Well, my gift that started with a G was actually a Samsung Galaxy - a little tablet - sort of iPadish, but not really. I was thoroughly surprised and definitely not something that I needed or really that I had even acted like I might want. He, on the other hand, had convinced himself and me that this was a worthwhile investment - monthly fee and all! Between you and me, since I started blogging on the good old laptop lately, I can't remember the last time I even used it. It's been a week probably. Shhh....don't tell anyone! I do enjoy it as a reader and for checking email, but there's no Pinterest app! For shame. The Pinterest peeps need to get up on their Android app creation fast! If I've just missed it somewhere and you know it exists, please let me know!
It does have a good ESV app that I use as my Bible on Sunday mornings. It was especially useful a couple of weeks ago when we had church in the dark thanks to a power outage. I say that, but my friend next to me knows that I turned it off pretty quickly because there was a certain 2 year old crawling all over me by that point in the service so there wasn't a chance that I'd be able to actually look at it. In a perfect world during a Sunday morning service with no power, it would've been very useful, though!
It also has a pretty good built in Maps/GPS type app. It will navigate for you and everything so it's better than the built in Iphone maps app. There's also a neat book reader for the kids that I've used at story time once, but I tend to be anti children playing on my devices so there aren't many games on it for them to play.
I sound like I'm not thrilled with my gift, don't I ? That's not really what I'm trying to say. I do love it! It's a neat little gadget to have, but I'm pretty old school about a lot of things so I don't really use it to its full potential. Hence why in my post yesterday I couldn't talk myself into buying Cpt an iPad! We're not very techy so the minimum really is good enough for us when it comes to gadgets. However, there is a Pinterest app for the iPad. Now that could change things! I'm sure if I moved out of the land of pencil and paper, I could use it to make grocery lists and organize my calendar and the kid's activities and such. I still like to see things in my own handwriting though! I like looking at the scribbled on calendar on the refrigerator. Maybe someday when I have golf clubs and actually have played a round of golf, I'll be more prone to using an electronic device to keep track of my life!
He also pulled another rabbit from his hat and scored us a free weekend at the Marriott Rivercenter in San Antonio for a marriage retreat compliments of the tax paying citizens of the USA. Thanks all you tax paying citizens! He even took care of securing a baby sitter for our weekend away. Bless you, dear sister. We had a great time on our little rendezvous and I hope there are many more rendezvous (how do you pluralize that word?) in the future! If you've never been to Boudro's on the river, I highly recommend it! We ate 2 meals there on this one weekend trip alone. The tenderloin of pork, fresh guacamole, shrimp and gulf crab enchiladas and great burgers - and other delicious drinks make it worth every penny! Try it. I can't wait to go again.
Notice there are no pictures? It's because despite there being this hard drive issue, there truly are NO pictures from my birthday. I'm not even sure we ventured out for yogurt. I have been inspired by this post to start using my timer on my camera more to make sure that I end up in more pictures. I tested it out on some pictures with F2 the other day. Maybe those will make it into a future post!
Wonder if I can celebrate my next birthday at Chuck E. Cheese? Hmmm...Better start writing my invite list on scrap paper and taping it to the refrigerator. Oh to be young!
