As I launch out on finding my blogging groove again and seek to get my couple of readers caught up on life, I thought it was probably appropriate to remember why it is that I started blogging in the first place.
Wades' World began as a place just to write personal stories and keep family and friends, near and far, up to date on what we were doing as we jumped off the edge into Army life! Last year when I printed out the first 3 years of the blog into book format, I was so excited to have some written memories to pass along to the kids and to remember for myself so many of the silly and exciting things we've done. We really do have some comical moments in our lives on a daily basis. Capturing them in words is worth the time and effort!
The blog world has changed so much since those first posts on Wades' World were published. So many of my friends who were once bloggers are no more! Facebook has taken over as a place for people to keep in touch and informed on a minute by minute basis. For the past few years I've fallen into the trap of spending hours and hours scouring Facebook to keep in touch with people that PreFacebook I would've had no idea or really cared what they were doing now. I've also let my Facebook time take over time I previously spent reading blogs and updating my own.
Lots of blogs have become a money making tool for many. The most read blogs usually have a niche and a huge following of people who care about that niche. For a while I tried to figure out if I could develop my blog with a niche and create a huge following and even make some money with it. It was easy to fall into a woe is me thought process when I realized that just wasn't the reality of my life! From there was the trap of wondering what the point of spending my moments blogging were when there probably wasn't anyone reading it! As I've come to grips with the fact that I'm not a truly gifted writer and that I will more than likely not be a big name blogger, I've reminded myself that I didn't create this blog to be famous! I created it as a place to chronicle our lives.
I've finally reached the point in my thinking where I'm content with the fact that Wades' World is just that - Our World! That makes me think of the tag line for Jon and Kate Plus 8 - "It might be a crazy life, but it's our life." I almost wrote that I'm just your typical housewife with 3 little kids who keep me on my toes, but the reality is that I'm only typical of Army housewives since I spend lots of time as a single housewife and mom due to our life as an Army family. The typical civilian woman wouldn't put up with this lifestyle for 10 minutes. Trust me! I've avoided talking much about Army life in the past, but that's who we are so in the future there will likely be more mention of how the Army affects our lives both positively and negatively. Army life is one of my planned posts for these 31 days so there willl be more about that later.
Having said all that, the goal moving forward is to take my blog back to the basics - back to those small, simple, and some times humorous things that happen in our lives. I'm not going to try to be someone that I'm not. I am who I am. We are who we are! Whether 1 person reads or 30 people read what I write, I still need to write so that I can remember so many of the obstacles and difficulties we've faced and overcome. So keep reading. You'll probably laugh, cry and maybe even consider calling the authorities to come check out the crazy lady behind the words of Wades' World!
